hey everyone. just showed up a few hours early for a wedding I have today, and I got to thinking what the majority of you use for you full day of wedding coverage, be as specific as possible, and maybe we can all share a little info.

Me: main body 5D with 28-70mm f2.8L, and usually 20d backup with 70-200 f2.8 IS. I usually do the aisle shots with the 580EX.

then switch over to the 70-200 for the service.

anyone else want to share??

For all of my weddings so far this year, including the one yesterday I used my 30D with 17-55 2.8 and 580ex flash for about 75% of the coverage and my 20D with 70-200 4.0 and 430ex flash for the rest. The long lens is great during ceremony and for some of the preparations, but the 17-55 is my workhorse. I change batteries in the flashes about 3 times during the course of the day to keep them firing fast. Yesterday I shot 1600 pics in 8 hours (200 an hour without a break), no wonder I'm so dead today. :P

Normally I use a 24-70 F2.8 in one camera and the 70-200mm f2.8 in th eother (D300 + D70) with 2x SB800.

I use to have a lot of spare batteries for the sb800 but I like more and more to work with avaiable light. So as long as I have enhough light I don't use them, unless is for fill flash. I also carry with me a 30mm f1.4 and a 50mm f1.8 fo really low light situations like inside church etc.

for more special lightning situaions i rather use the sb800 off camera in a tripod with a translucent humbrella.

In a near future I will buy a 20mm f1.8 and a 85mm f1.8, because when you get used to fast primes, even excelent lenses like the New nikkor 24-70f2,8 or the 70-200f2.8 like I have don't seem fast enough for low light situations.

Today I went back to two bodies for some of the day - been using one and a belt system for the past year or so and it has advantages and disadvantages.

Shot today with 2 40Ds - 70-200 2.8 for part of the day with the 10-22 on the other body, and the reception with the 10-22 and 24-70. Up until the last wedding I used a 17-55 2.8 IS and now am favoring the 24-70 2.8 - the extra reach is great especially during the reception.

I use the 50 1.2 for some things, but not today. The guys got ready in a bathroom on the campground side of the farm - not pretty. The girls got ready in the basement of the barn...a real cave. A far cry from last weeks restored 100 year old bed and breakfast with gorgeous rooms and french doors and balconies...

each wedding is somewhat differnt and you have to be prepared for whatever is thrown at you. Some brides want a lot of portraiture and some do not. Some want lots of getting ready and others do not. THere was a limo today -it was used to bring the girls from the hair salon to the farm - the ceremony and reception was all at one place and then the late night party moved to the campground where they were to have a bonfire.

Primarily I use the 24-70/17-55 and 10-22. The 50 1.2 and 70-200 are used for portraiture or some tele work during the ceremony. I rarely use the 70-200 during the reception but I have a friend/co shooter that uses it a lot.

I've pretty much replaced the 85 1.8 with the 50 1.2 for ports and the 24-70 for the reception. I got a 135 2.8 for my assistant/second shooter but that's been replaced by a 70-200 F4 (he uses a tripod anyway so a stop isn't much of an issue).

I got the lens baby but have only used it at one wedding. I have plans for it, but it takes time and there just isn't time. Today due to the heat (low 90s and no A/C at this farm - anywhere) the bride put her dress on 5 minutes before she was to walk down the aisle - literally. After the bridal party dance everyone changed out of their formal wear except B&G and they did after the sunset photos. Not a real photogenic wedding in a lot of ways.

Thanks everyone! Just curious, I'm wanting to buy a few more fast primes. :D

Take care!
