Apart from the original idea for a photo, the opportunity to take it and the composition itself, one of the important aspects of digital photography is what you do with it afterwards. How about a challenge where a relatively run-of-the-mill photograph (or a few to give people a limited choice) is available for all to download as a JPEG. The challenge would be to alter it according to Basic Editing rules in order to make the best of it: cropping, adjustments to contrast/brightness/hue/saturation etc.
I think this is one part of photographic technique that i could certainly do with more opportunity to hone skills.

If it were a challenge with only 10 or so participants I would agree - I think it would be fascinating as I love playing with alternative cropping in particular.

However with the sheer volume of members I can't imagine anyone would want to wade through the entries to vote since so many would be similar.

Indeed, Kavey- a tough one to vote on! That's more of a Photoshop Challenge than digital photography, though. Sure, editing is an important aspect, but I can't imagine a DPC challenge that doesn't actually involve taking a picture.

would be pretty dull to vote on - 300 pictures all the same.

Perhaps doing it via the forums though...?

I think that would be rather interesting. Something I would surely mess around with. I think it'd be fun to give it a whirl.
