1st time I have attemped to do a soft portrait, slam me hard so i know what i am doing wrong if anything please

Concept, composition, lighting, A+. Soft focus implementation... well, needs work. What you have really just looks OOF, to be blunt. What you *should* have is visible detail, but with a soft "glow." Start with a sharp original, maybe even a timy bit *too* sharp, and apply a gaussian blur. Then fade the blur to about 35% or to taste (or apply the blur to a duplicate layer and adjust opacity). Now use a layer mask to cut back the blur intensity some more on eyes, lips, and wherever desired.

Thanks Kir, I will go back and try that too.

Thank you guys for the comments, I am trying to expand my photography from the darkness and draggin myself into the lightness a little more. Trust me it is hard to do when you feel you are better at one than the other, that is why I appreciate all your comments as it helps me drag myself a little inch further than before.

I agree with Kirbic, but I also think that you need to have SOMETHING in slight focus, I think you eye still needs to go to something, so you want to use the most important part of the photo. Perhaps your eyes, or face, or hands...
