Moose, thanks for your answer, and thanks to Juliet for starting this thread. I'm not ready to purchase LR yet, but it's on my radar now.

Short answer - Yes. Their approach is a little different Aperture is a little more free-form from what I understand but they are both workflow managers that allow you to perform common operations that you would want to do to a photo (i.e. organize, find, crop, adjust exposure, WB, color, export, print, slideshow, etc).
For basic editing here on DPC I never leave LR. I import my photos, sort through them, crop, adjust levels/curves, sharpen, resize and export. Takes a couple of minutes from selecting the RAW photo to having it up on DPC. For advanced I will import it into PS to do localized corrections using masks but for basic LR is more than sufficient. |

I was given a copy of LR and it sat on my shelf for 4 months until I went to a local photo club and the Adobe LR manager gave a demo of LR. I immediately went home, pulled it off the shelf and haven't looked back. I just wish I had done it 4 months sooner and it solved so many of my workflow issues. It's not perfect but it's the closest I've found.
BTW Juliet - sorry for hijacking your thread. :) |

I had the same situation once when I was much younger. Looking back, I wish I'd had a camera. |

Well, if you don't want to throw another three hundred at adobe at this minute, you have a 400D that came with a Software Disk... Install DPP then immediately go to the canon site //www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct and grab the May 20 2008 update.
Browse to your folder. Add the Photos you to the "Collection". Go into the collection and rate (check mark 1, 2, or 3) each em... I batch delete the ones I mark 3 and batch edit (with recipes) the ones I mark with a one. |

Yeah I use the DPP program for my main viewer and if I have to batch process white balance and stuff. Though most my work is so unbalanced .... umm yeah it resembles me. 6-;

For the most part I use DPP and Adobe Bridge, Ive been thinking of getting LR but other than a couple more search features it doesn't have a lot to offer more than what Im using now... but for someone that has nothing in place it could be a worthwhile investment.
