I just bought a new Manfrotto tripod.

Now, the quick release plate on the head has a little stud sticking out of it, intended to go into a hole in the camera. Not the threaded bolt, but another little stud, I assume to help keep the camera from rotating around on the plate.
However, my Nikon D40 doesn't have the small hole on the bottom of it for that to fit into. It only has the main threaded bolt hole.
I must be really dense because I can't figure out how to remove the little stud from the plate. It looks like it is designed to be removeable. It has a slotted end like a screwdriver should be able to remove it. The plate also has 2 other holes that look like the stud can be moved to accomodate other configurations.
But for the life of me I can't figure out how to remove the thing. I tried a screwdriver but the whole little stud just spins around.
Anyone know the probably really stupid simple answer to this?

| That is probably intended for use with video cameras. Mine has one to but it is spring loaded so that it disappears when I mount the Canon on it. |

| Yes, it's for video cameras. If it doesn't retract, just remove it. |

Take a pliers and squeeze the two ends together, push it out while doing this and it should pop right out.
Edit: What looks like a flat head screwdriver end are actually two tabs. Squeeze those two together is what I meant.

Ahh... thanks! I think that is the bit of wisdom I was missing.

| If all else fails, take a marker and mark the matching spot on the bottom of your camera, then take a 1/8 drill bit and a high speed drill... oh, nevermind. :-) |
