Ok you Lightroom experts out there, I need your help. Where in Lightroom can I set the default resolution to 300dpi? In Adobe RAW you can set it when opening an image from ACR into PS. In Lightroom, I can set the dpi default when EXPORTING pictures to PS. However, when I want to launch an image from Lightroom into PS using the "Edit with PS" command, the dpi defaults to 240dpi.

Anyone know how I can set the default in Lightroom to 300dpi when using the "Edit with PS" command? I know there is probably a simple default setting somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for your help!

edit to say that I read to fast.

I think what is happening here is that your camera is actually shooting at 240DPI and that is what LR sees. When you use ACR you are actually chaning it to 300 then pulling it into PS. If that is the case then just change it in PS to 300. Test this by shooting a good picture (jpeg) and then pull it up in PS. See what the DPI is. Also test it on other images as well. Sometimes I notice my images are 300dpi and some are 240dpi depending on what I am shooting.

Thanks - I think you're correct, the camera is defaulting to 240dpi. I would like to bring it into PS with the default of 300dpi. It's easy to set the default in ACR (thus removing the requirement to change it every time I load a picture). I am looking to set the same default in Lightroom - again, removing the requirement to set the dpi for each individual picture. Lightroom lets you set the default when you EXPORT to PS, however, I would like to have this default from the "Edit in PS" feature - using this feature in LR has other advantages over the export command.

Hmm. I don't have a good answer, but I did find the post below, although it's not very helpful. Someone asked LR developer Mark Hamburg the same question a few months ago. His reply? "240ppi is Camera Raw's default and we didn't see a reason to change it. It's pretty much an arbitrary number until you go to print."
Lightroom Journal Link

From this and other comments I've seen posted by the LR dev team regarding dpi in LR, they basically consider that a meaningless value until actual print or export time, so they don't provide an interface to adjust or set it until then. (Which is arguably technically correct, but I completely see the value of your concern of being able to set it to 300 (or another other specific value) upon intermediate-export to another program for editing).

Did you ever find your answer?

I found an article that pretty much followed the line of thinking cdrice articulated. Basically, even though LR is developed to work tightly with PS, Adobe considers it a standalone product, so they expect you to print from the software as well. Thus, the only way to set a default dpi is to export the images or use LR's own print/web facilities. Even though they have an "Edit in PS" feature, they expect that you will be bringing the image back into LR to print or do other things. There's logic there - it just messes with my workflow process for creating STOCK images.

Thanks for all the replies!

By chance what version of LR are you using?
