He's an AMAZING photographer who came to speak at our school last night. If you've never done so, take a few minutes and look at his website.

Yeah what a body of work! My favs are the Dave Chappelle shot and the Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson shot. What did he talk about technique, lighting or the business side?

He said the Dave Chappelle shot wasn't even what they were going for that day. Art told us that Chappelle was one of the most stubborn subjects he's ever shot, and he was in his dressing room 'pouting' about the photoshoot, and when Art walked in there to talk to him, he saw this scene and snapped it. Apparently they had a $10,000 stage set up with lights, props, extras, etc, and he just walked in there and took this with his point and shoot. haha.

He shoots Hasseblad (spelling?) and said that in most of his portraits some of the people weren't there, so they had to measure lighting, location, direction, etc, and then shoot that person some other time and place and photoshop them into the picture. He has extreme talent.
All of his lights are Dyna-Lights, and he has 4 full time assistants, and some shoots he can have up to 20 helpers. The talk went on for hours and he kept answering all our questions

Good stuff! I am sure you were riveted! Thanks for sharing a little and I bookmarked his site. The Chappelle shot just goes to show you it is the opportunity, moment, eye and shutter that makes a great image not the gear.
