I use a freeware program called Picture Shark. Pretty easy to use and you can specify where the watermark appears and how transparent it is, etc. I created my watermark in my image editing program as a .gif with a transparent background. Works like a charm.

If you are using photoshop, just make a new type layer, write your text and then slide the levels back til it's as transparent as you want it. You could make a .png image of the text and use an action to put it over a set of photos. Hope this helps. Lynn

I agree with creating an action that will work. Here is a tutorial that may help with creating proof images.

I also found a script on adobe.com in the exchange that will allow you to add a proof number/filename.

I got this link from rexfor making a Brush of your copyright. It was so easy even I could do it!

I use it as a copyright and watermark....and you can make it any size, shape, color, etc....
