Heh - wish I said this. Like Deb said, expressed quite well. :)
Oh well, back to Boats. Wish I had one yesterday - it would have been beautiful to have been on the lake. :D |

Lending my voting support to pictures that I find did an exceptional job of meeting the challenge. |
Yes, but that can be conveyed through a favourable comment as well, can't it? ;\ |
It can, yes, but it's also conveyed via score. Given the amount of discussion over score, that seems rather important, the score. Yes? So if I like a shot and give it a 7 or an 8, that's a favorable comment on its own. And maybe that shot didn't get many 7s or 8s. It's nice for someone to see that at the end of the challenge. I know I like to see it. And if I'm in a challenge, I've given it thought, I've come up with ideas, I've done a lot of shooting. I have a lot invested in that challenge. If it's a challenge I'm NOT in, I may not have given it the same amount of thought. I tend to vote faster in the not-entered challenges (though not always.) I'll have to check my stats more often, but the last time I voted both a challenge I was in and one I was not, the challenge I was in received the higher average. But I could very well be an exception. |
Valid points that i'm sure you've discussed many times before and that'll be discussed again.
Cheers. |

Or else, kinda like telling your waitress she did a wonderful job, tipping her but having the amount of tip amount potentially influenced by the size of your tips since ....well..... you're both working in the same restaurant and she may be in a better section and give better service. All this said, you sometimes work in the same section but cannot give as good service as she does but you wnat to be fair when you tip her because its an industry thing to do so. That said, you really hate her because she is a better server than you hope to ever become and furthermore she is cheerful which really gets your goat. None the less, you maintain COMPLETE objectivity when tipping her and go on your merry way becuase she can see your face when she dropped off the bill. Had she not seen your face, the hag would have gotten a 1 cent tip because you need to knock her down a few notches and get off her high "waitressing" horse. Ha ha ha, that'll show that +*&^%$ for waitressing better than me!!!
Well, that was fun and as you can see, It goes both ways regardless of which analogy you might use to illustrate your point. I personally like the "Bird Feeder and the Marmot" analogy, in this circumstance. ;-)

Actually, no, I don't see how your story illustrates another side to the story.
Don't forget that in general, when we vote, we do not know (or are not supposed to know) who created the picture. In your story, the other waitress is identified.
Before I joined as a member, I did run thru the exclusive challenges and make comments indicating that I could not vote, but I did say what I would have given them. I really wanted to be able to participate in the voting process, (and to participate in the exclusive challenges), so I joined.
This is a topic that I'm sure will go on and on. I just don't understand the energy put behind trying to change something like this. In the whole scheme of life, there are more serious issues to tackle. |

The amount of time spent on this issue is a non-issue and if we wish to quantify the effort spent bantering issues surrounding a virtual photo contest, that, is a whole other issue. For every "trite" comment, there is even a greater "trite" comment and I think my last comment may have illustrated that, even though you may not wish not acknowledge the connection. Changing things? Always good to look for a better way as that is the democratic process otherwise we stagnate.
Anyhow, I find it funny when someone brings up a point and the "DPC gang" bellies up to the bar to quickly make a mockery out of it. Remember that not all the patrons bellied up to the bar may agree with this subtle ridicule and furthermore the dismissive "send off" that may follow.
Aww crap, here I go again. Well ..... thats just me. Sorry if my retort DNMC. |

I really enjoy seeing how others interpret a challenge that I've put time into - and to just click through without voting seems to be a waste of time. Besides, we get back to the question - who votes in Free Studies?? |
