While out looking for an entry to the latest challenge, I came across this guy enjoying a meal. Never realized they could down a fish of that size. It took him a couple of minutes, but eventually, he managed.
When I spotted him, I still had all my gear bagged up. I quickly threw it all together and got a few shots before it was too late. Not much time to worry about the details as I preferred to have an average shot of an exciting scene rather than an exciting shot of an average scene.

A good catch for both you and the Heron.
I got one like this when I was shooting for the water challenge. The river was flooding and he was sitting next to the dam, looking for disoriented fish as they came tumbling down from it. He carried it around for a while, then it fought and ended up as a fish shaped bulge in his throat. I'm finding Herons and Egrets are fascinating to watch.
  
It's a shame I was at his backside at the time, but like you said, you have to take the shot or it will be gone.

Great photos!
I stumbled on this while trying to find vids of pigeons which are my sons obsession (14 moths old)

Hope that was one that you chose to NOT show to your son. I thought Pelicans pretty much ate fish. Clearly I was mistaken. |

LMAO. Was that a pigeon or a duck that he ate? I can't imagine anything wanting to eat a pigeon. |
