The first photo is an outtake from the portrait challenge. It was my first choice for quite some time, but I changed to the more unconventional shot at the last minute.

The second photo is an edit of the entry, with the background edited. Is it too noticable and digitized? Or does it improve the shot?

This entry pose, by the way, was totally unplanned. I was posing her with her trumpet, when she starting playing around and did this on her own, so I snapped the pic. That's why the bell of the trumpet is cut off....not cropped that way, but is how it was taken since it wasn't a preplanned pose.

Thanks for your comments.

IMHO your entry is not really a portrait. A portrait, in my opinion should be a non action focusing on ones face, facial expression or something like that. Usualy portraits should end somewhere in the sholders area, even if it doesn't the head and face should be the main focus. Some had stretched it too animals, birds, I even seen a cofee can but personaly when I see a full body where the face is not the main subject I don't consider it a portrait. Other than that the shot is ok, I just don't consider it as a portrait. I'm sure it would of done better in other challenges.

The submission is much better than the outtake. It would be improved by having the bell of the trumpet included. You could have just had her play something fun for you and taken pics while she played. I have found that when shooting musicians with ther instruments, they relax and seem much more natural when they are playing something, even if it's just goofing around.

I like the background too, but the line does show a bit more than I would like.
