I read the rules (again) and I am a little confused on the layers thingys.
Can I use layers, IE make a background copy layer, then using that layer use blending layer applied to the whole layer as so that I can piddle about with the colours and then flatten>

Unless I misunderstand you, this is not allowed in Basic. The only layer which can contain pixels is the Background layer.
The only other allowed layers are Adjustment Layers (Curves, Levels, etc.), and those must not contain anything on their mask layer, and must be applied in Normal mode. |

Thank you, I just get so confused on these layers. I wasnt sure, as it was a copy of the background, but you opy the background 3-4 times and do different things to each background but not just an area, it is the whole shot.
And this is the first time I have worked with a blending layer of the background copy, so as the whole shot was manipulated and then all the layers stuck together,, damn even typing it out i am confused.
HA, so that is what i will do in teh future. If it confuses me, then it is probably illegal in Basic HAHAH |

Juliet: if what you want to do is combine multiple color adjustments, then use multiple hue/saturation adjustment layers or other adjustment layers.
In other words, instead of:
- copy background
- permanently change the colors
-repeat several times
- flatten the variously edited layers together
do this:
- create adjustment layer 1
- create adjustment layer 2
etc.
Make sure the adjustment layers are all in normal blending mode. Their effects will add up.
But FWIW, I think the basic rule about layers is poorly written. I've never understood the reluctance to just write:
You may not
- use more than one layer with image data.
- combine multiple image layers through varying transparency.
The current "you may use only adjustment layers" isn't clear enough that "only" refers to "other types of layers."
