I just had to take advantage of the advanced editing rules of the portrait challenge and knocked a few years of my age.

Here is the original (after levels and saturation adjustment) and the edited version (my submission).

From the comments I can see I probably overdid it on the teeth.

Editing :
* teeth whitened.
* white of eyes whitened.
* color of eyes slightly more blue and saturated.
* wrinkels around eyes softened
* wrinkels on forehead removed.
* hair slightly darkened
* skin blurred

Picture taken with :
* 500 W halogen floodlight reflected in umbrella spraid with silver paint, from left.
* styrofoam board to the right for reflection
* 500 W halogen floodlight right behind me pointed at the white wall
* camera from above.

I think your self portait looks just as nice with the wrinkles left in the picture - you have a very kind, good natured face and that shows through even more with the wrinkles left as they are. Sometimes, removing wrinkles removes the character of the face. You did a very good job on your self portait, it is very hard to take a picture of yourself that doesn't look contrived.

Thanks Sammie, that is very kind of you to say, and I just want to add that the wrinkles don't bother me, just wanted to have some fun and learn more of Photoshop.

o.k. here is some further explanation :

* teeth whitened.
select the teeth with lasso tool, feather 3 pixels, copy and paste onto separate layer, apply levels to taste
* white of eyes whitened.
select white with lasso tool again, feather 3 pixels, copy and paste onto separate layer, apply levels
* color of eyes slightly more blue and saturated.
select eye color, feather again, copy and paste, fill with bright blue, set to color blending mode and opacity 10% (and any desired value depending on desired effect).
* wrinkels around eyes softened
select the area around the eyes, feather , copy and paste, use the cloning tool with soft edged brush to copy from nearby area onto wrinkles (if you use nearby area then color will be close and needs no further adjustment)
* wrinkels on forehead removed.
same procedure
* hair slightly darkened
just the burn tool on desired areas
* skin blurred
use the blur brush and apply to all skin patches desired

The advantage of putting all these modifications on separate layers is that you can modify each effect separately later. Be careful which layer goes on top of which other one. For example if you select the eyes and the area around it for the wrinkle botox treatment, then the eye white and eye color treatment needs to go on top of that layer, otherwise you won't see it (so small selection on top of large selections of same area. If the consider layer to be overhead transparency sheets on top of each other it makes sense).
