I think I'm moving away from liking the "cool", clear pictures and towards liking the blurry, weird ones.
Example: is what I would consider a "cool" photo.
Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy this photograph a lot. I think it's really cool how it was done and I can definitely appreciate it. But theres something about a photograph like on the main page of this website, that sort of just hits something in my brain.
In general, I feel like I'm starting to like the older film cameras, the weird toy cameras, like I'm going backwards in time. So I was wondering why this was. Maybe it has something to do with my age (I'm 20) or that I'm only just starting to really learn about photography, I don't really know.
So my question is, does anyone else feel this way? Or has felt this way before? Why or why not? etc.
I tried to somewhat make sense in my explanation of all this, but feel free to completely ignore me if I failed. |

Nothing to do with age, but taste.
The egg photo, I don't like it too much. Nicely done and all that but the photo you linked gets me more... and it has nothing to do with going backwards either... it's just a taste of photography.

You would likely enjoy looking thru this forum thread.
The Blur Part 2 Thread
I enjoy images that use soft focus, fog, motion and other effective ways of isolating or shrouding the subject too. Sometimes it only takes a hint of form or light and shadow to present a whole story.

hey anna! i can tell ya you're not the only one here on the site that feels the same about the beauty of blur and grain&Co including myself. i started to feel the same way last year and i think that's when my real vision for the art of photography came to life, so i think it's a good thing :)
have a look in the forums and have an open eye for the side challenges, you can learn a bunch there about unusual technics and points of views. |

I think you're just going through a natural progression as you experience photography. Cool photos have expiration dates on them, art photos do not. Sorry I couldn't resist that pun since you posted that egg pic. :P

I like both styles and (try to) practice them both as well. I've been using my Holga fairly often lately, and bought a bunch of expired films to experiment with. |

I like a photo that...err... I like. I don't look for blurry images to like, I don't search for crisp images to like, I don't choose what I like, I like what I like, period. So no matter what you throw at me, as long as composition, setup, colours, or lack of, all fall into place and touch me, i'll continue liking what.... I like. In other words, it's personal and cannot be forced upon me or anyone else. It's not whether it's in focus or not in focus or blurry or softly focused that does it for me, it needs to convey something and if it does then I do not notice the technicalities of how the image was made. If I go ahhhh oooo awwwww, well then I'm looking at something I like. ;\ |
