I'm really exited about getting a special invitation to see Phillip Johnsons Glass House. The tours are usually sold-out and the each tour is limited to 10 people.
I'll bring my camera of course but I think following his own words to guests "just shut up and look around", might be far smarter than shooting. I'm sure I'll take away a few rich pearls of wisdom to a different way of seeing.
Outside of technical stuff I tend to learn so much more about photography... and art from these types of excursions, discussions or reading the thoughts of these high caliber figures.
Have any of you struck on some powerful words that have stayed with you since the moment you heard/read them AND remain influential in your work?

fake it till you make it...
oh-no wait...that was for life in general ;)
...to be a photographer is a more difficult profession than to be a writer, because words cannot always decribe what the eyes behold... / opinions will always differ - to have the majority see eye to eye upon one image is a great feat to accomplish... goodluck -

"When you're out shooting, don't forget to look behind you now and then."
As an example, I was out once trying to shoot some horses. They were'nt cooperating, and I got very frustrated and decided to leave. As I turned around to get in the car, I saw this-

That reminded me of Weegee...but with a far different result.
I was going to mention we should add an example where the words sort of come to life through an image... |

This probably seems very obvious, and perhaps one of the first 'words' that people think of, but it is just so, so very true, and should be among the top of our thoughts when shooting-
"It's all about the light."

I've posted this quote a few times before. It's kind of my mantra...
âOne might compare the art of photography to the act of pointing. It must be true that some of us point to more interesting facts, events, circumstances, and configurations than others.â
-John Szarkowski
That quote constantly reminds me to look for things that are a little different...unusual and not to shoot the same stuff everybody else is pointing to. That thought is always present when I'm out shooting. If there are a bunch of cameras out clicking away, my camera's probably in the bag.
