I've said it before and I'll say it again. There should be a selected group that has Langdon's phone number just for this reason right here.
Also what happens if something happens to Langdon? Let̢۪s say he gets arrested or even worse he passes away for whatever odd reason. Who will run the site??? Drew really doesn't even get on and when he does it's about twice a year. You never know what could happen and anything could happen at anytime so maybe L&D should take some precautions and let some more people in on the whole running the site thing.
L&D this is directed more towards you guys rather than anyone else. If both of you get into a car accident and don't make it out, would you want the site to continue or would that be it? If something did happen would we at least know it? Time to take out an insurance policy so to say for the site.

I don't think of it as an emergency, so much as an opportunity to surf some porn.

I agree.
On the other hand, "Do you have a business continuity plan and what does your disaster recovery plan look like" says the same thing, only in less obvious words. The scenario is similar.
If you read Dirt_Divers words as an awkward way of saying "I love this site and I would terribly miss it" they sound much less harsh.
(Edited typo.)

I don't see how any thing I said can sound cold...
I was simply saying that anything can happen at anytime and no one has any control of an accident.
As much as I can't stand some of the things around here I still don't want to lose it. So read it as you like but please don't put words in my mouth.
And yes "Do you have a business continuity plan and what does your disaster recovery plan look like" should have been what I said but I didn't know what it was called.

I think the reaction was to this:

Not that "What will happen to DPC" isn't the first question that would pop into most of our heads should something terrible happen to Langdon, but you could have tempered it with a "God forbid" or something like that. ;-)
Maybe we should collectively invest in a life insurance policy for L and form an LLC to buy the site if anything happens to him (God forbid!). Imagine if the site fell into the wrong hands - i.e. Google. Maybe DPC should be declared a historical landmark or an established religion or DPCers an endangered species or something. Maybe I should stop rambling and go back to work... |

Langdon needs Life Alert - "Help! I've fallen and I can't reach the rollover button!"
We'll send someone right over! |

A contingency plan is always a good idea and a very basic thing to formulate for any business. This site is one of those things that would have to have one in place and I'm sure that the powers that be already have those details worked out, even if its just with a spouse or best friend... I don't feel its anyone elses problem to worry about.
I don't feel the original post was intended to be cold, just making a matter of fact concern. kinda like a life insurance salesman. What if scenarios are what keeps us safe in most cases. DPC would be my least concern should anything happen to langdon, (god forbid)

I don't think it is near the issue that people make it out to be. But there could be a problem. If during the extended voting period people cast votes that could change the placing of other's photos, that would be unfair. It is also unfair to the people that got their images in the upcoming challenges in on time to allow others that didn't get in before the original rollover time to still compete, especially if they finish in the top.

I would assume that, if need be, any votes cast after the deadline could be tossed (if analysis showed that they skewed the results). In fact, I would not be surprised to learn that on those occasions where the rollover does not occur on time, the SC does exactly that as a matter of course. It seems almost impossible that someone actually Entering an image after the rollover time could garner enough votes to matter, let alone win, and again, I assume the SC can remove or DQ any entries that occur after the deadline.
"emergency" seems a strong word--it is more like anxiety inducing inconvenience.... |
