I live in the US. Im going to canada this winter, and was wondering, can I actually benefit from the exchange rate, when buying camera equipment?

No you can't. Your US dollar has gone down considerably (thank you Mr George Double Ya). A US$ can buy approximately $1.35 Canadian.

An example: a 550EX will cost you $700 Canadian. Converted that means $518US (as opposed to $300 at BHPhoto).

I buy most of my equipment on the US side, either through E-bay (80%) or BHPhoto or Andorama. On average I've paid 65% (taxes, shipping, brokerage fees included) of what I would have paid on the Canadian side. I like to support Canadian, but not at a 50% premium.

Oh yeah, and by Q4 the dollar is supposed to be $1.25. Great for Jacko the E-Bayer, bad for exporters.
