Not to inject levity into a heartfelt request, but what is a "DCPer"? Is that a dyslexic DPCer?

Yes, yes it is.

No seriously, I seem to have a major problem when it comes to DPC, I even say DCP. I do not know what it is. I have a mental mind block. I type it, I say it, I am blonde

I think DCPers are the people who still use film. Digitally Challenged Photographers.

But back to the topic in question, I hope the best to all the Chinese DPCers and non-DPCers alike. I saw a map showing the quake and aftershocks. It is amazing. The ground just won't stop moving. Even the rescue workers out there are in serious danger from landslides and such. It's absolutely tragic.

Check out the US Geological Survey's Earthquake website.

You can blame India for rear-ending China. A heck of a shake, and a reminder of the dynamic planet we live on. Tragic for the residents.

I understand what you mean about India "rear-ending" China, but given the current political state of things re Tibet v China, I am quite taken by the actual description in the USGS website:

The earthquake reflects tectonic stresses resulting from the convergence of crustal material slowly moving from the high Tibetan Plateau, to the west, against strong crust underlying the Sichuan Basin and southeastern China.

If I read this correctly, Tibet is where India did the rear-ending, and Tibet unloaded on China.

I know I shouldn't be taking this lightly, and I'm not, really, but it IS kind of ironic...

There are 24 users listed as being from China. I clicked through a lot of them and hardly any have participated in challenges. So it's hard to say how they are doing.

Also, I bet there are thousands and thousands of people who have dormant accounts. I wonder if SC ever goes through and weeds out ones that have been inactive for a certain amount of time.

Do we have members from Burma? I'm going to go check.

I checked - one person in Myanmar - inactive.

Actually, as I understand it, Tibet is just caught up in the middle, a product of the crash between the Eurasia Plate and the Indian Plate. The crash created the mountains of Tibet. Here's a schematic I found:

Here's something to try with your yogurt. After opening one up, squeeze the container from the sides from opposite (180 degrees) sides. It creates conjugate sets of strikeslip faults, at an angle to the force. Same idea with India as an indentor into Asia. Also watch carefully as you shovel snow off your driveway, which creates nice examples of overthrusting such as in the Cordillera. I don't know about Tibet, offhand, but suppose it's got some component of overthrusting.

But, I do appreciate the irony of Tibet vs China! :-O

She probably was just thinking about the Dislocated Chinese People when she typed it.

Sounds like cosmic balance - I had to think along similar lines.
