I just finished watching 'War Photographer.' It's a documentary done about photographer James Nachtwey.
The film was amazing. It puts you right with Nachtwey as he captures some of the most moving images I've ever seen. Words don't even describe it, I can't beleive what this man has done.

I watched this on the independend film channel i believe it was
it was pretty amazing how they showed how close up he was, the things he saw, and how he literally showed no fear. What did they say it was ? it took him like 20 years or something to complete 'his work' or something of that sort, its been a while so yea.

I was shown this in school, a truly amazing and inspiring film. One of the only times I found myself staying well after class was done to finish watching something.
Its tough to imagine being in those situations. I can't help but remember about one of the editor/publishers talking about his work and saying something roughly like: "We would spend an afternoon going through his film and need a to drink a few beers just to let go of what we just saw. James on the other hand, who was there in person, comes home day in and day out, has a glass of water and goes to sleep."
Or how about the film shot where a bullet goes through his hair! This stuff is for real and he deserves all the acolades he has received. |

stunning, superb work. it's a terrible responsibility war photographers choose to bear, and looking at his wonderful work makes me very glad that i didn't choose that route in college. it was a near thing, but if i had, i think i'd be mad by now.

I just received a photography book which has some of the works of James Nachtwey in it. Amazingly powerful use of photographic medium to tell a story beyond words.
I can only hope for a day when there are fewer tragic events left to be documented. His website was listed earlier but here it is again //www.jamesnachtwey.com/
The image under the Rwanda link is the one that made me look him up, was going to post it but figured he would have been in the DPC forums, so I am bumping this old one.
The two most powerful images for me, are sadly also the most horrible, Rwanda and Famines, the cruelty mankind is capable of... |
