Hey everyone,

I purchased a lens through B&H photo a little over a year ago, and I purchased the 3 year extended pro mack warranty with it. Well recently the lens started jumping all over the place while focusing (where after it focused it would finally start working until you turned the camera off, then it would do it again), and so I sent it in for repair. Well, it turns into a huge ordeal, and 2 days before the "the lens will be repaired withing 15-20 business days" deadline they quote, i get an e-mail stating:

"We have ordered parts for the repair of this lens, and they should be in withing 6 weeks. We will send you notification when it is ready to ship."

of course to this I said "no, blah blah, contract, 15-20 business days, etc"

and i get a response back that said, literally 2 hours later by e-mail:
"Greetings,

We have received parts for your lens yesterday. My technician has stated that he will have it completed before this Saturday."

The parts that were supposed to make it in after 6 weeks mysteriously show up 2 hours later?

I get the lens in yesterday, and it's in worse shape than it was when I sent it in. For one, when I put it on either my 20d or 5d body, it jumps around MORE and never focuses. Not once. Another thing it's now doing, is it will not zoom all the way to 200mm, but it gets stuck at exactly 135mm.

Rediculous

So yesterday, I called and left a message to call me back, call again this morning to the manager who gave me the "it'll be shipped out saturday" line, and called again a few minutes ago, and left a total of 4 messages over the past 36 hours. I'm beyond pissed.

So let this go to show anyone, that if you're considering buying a Mack Camera Warranty, do not do it. I have had a terrible experience with them, and apparently this is why B&H photo is not dealing with them anymore.

Has anyone else had any dealings with them?

RIP my trusty 70-200 :( hah

*bump*

just curious if this is a one time thing, or if anyone else has had problems out of them.

I bought a Mack Warranty ... I've no experience in using it. After reading this, now I hope I never gain that experience! :(

I had a Mack warranty on my first camera, but never used it. Hopefully your bad experience isn't typical. Maybe there is someone at B&H who can offer some insight?

I hate crap like this. It's all too much like insurance. :-(

My jaded view is that I'm the only one I can rely on. Everyone else is crap.

Hmmph, doesn't sound good. I haven't heard bad things at all about the Mack warranties, so this is kind of surprising. I hope you get it ironed out.

similar experience yes- you have 90 days to report the problem to them after the repair and they ahve to send you a shipping label and repair it - its still 'in warrenty' because it was not 'repaired' call them and get your shipping label and send it to them and tell them you expect it to be in like new/working condition when you get it back-as the warrenty states it will be when you purchase the warrenty in the 1st place... (sometimes they figure people won't go thru the trouble of a 2nd repair but $ is $ and i'd expect mine fixed like new :(

ETA: my experience was with my S1fujifilm camera and I didnt' end up sending it back but they informed me of my rights and sent me the shipping label (I tommy-rigged it and fixed it myself since I _needed_ it before they would be able to gaurentee it back to me so it wasn't worth the trouble/time of sending it out and being without a camera at that time :( but u do have 90 days I believe-- definatly contact them tho!!

thanks everyone,

i called them repeatedly, left professional, but stern voice mails, and finally received a call this past friday. I received the "faulty repaired lens" on tuesday I believe, and tried calling every day 3 or 4 times since then. so friday i get the call, and I explain to them that I needed this lens without a doubt by this coming friday for a wedding, and if it wouldn't be here I expected them to give me either a replacement , or a rental at their expense. at hearing this, they e-mailed me a printable shipping label and I sent them the lens friday, so hopefully i'll have it back by the weekend (doubtful though)

i'm just tired of having to raise hell to get some help out of these people.

used my mack warrenty on two different camera bodies, and my 100-400mm without any negative experiences.
