As you can see, I have an older camera -- the compact point-and-shoot variety. It fits in my pocket and I can (and often do) take it everywhere including to locations where I might not be able to take a larger camera (or willing to take a more expensive one).
But competition here is tough. I'm up against the newest technology. Challenges aside, I'd like the ability to use different lenses, shoot at higher ISO's and smaller apertures, and zoom beyond 5X. I'd like razor sharp focus on certain images too.
I don't think I've done so bad with this camera. I've managed a few Top 20's in competitions against greater cameras and have even ribboned recently by some fluke. But I'm really getting into this, and think it might be time to take things to the next level.
So, the million dollar question is: Is it time for a new camera? Or should I stick with what I have and just keep learning? I don't have thousands of dollars to spend, and I don't need the latest thing -- but maybe the next latest thing. By looking at ribbons, it would seem I need a Canon EOS something-or-other. I'm partial to Olympus, but not dedicated. Can I get something, even if used or refurbished, in the $300 to $500 range that will get me to the next level? Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks!
