YAYYY!! (muttergrumble all that work and he just waltzes in and saves the day...) lol.

That's a wayyyy better picture of webworms than I saw when something brought me to think of them. I'd pretty much discounted them, but that's perfect! And yes, they ARE one and the same!

Thanks :D

(Hyphantria cunea, aka the fall webworm)

Well it helps having actually seen them at this stage in their life lol. I had a tree with tons of them in it as a kid and I had to clear it out every year. At least it BUG you tonight trying to figure it out!

But I'm glad I could help solve the mystery! :)

I've seen those things dangling off of trees before but I could have sworn they were green in color.

These caterpillars are pale yellow, green or beige, black-spotted, and covered with hairs. (quoted from somewhere with nothing much else of interest that I was too lazy to copy the url of ;) )

But now that we've identified the flannel moth, totally coincidental to the webworms, I still expect you to watch for signs of any of their caterpillars!

Which reminds me of a cute story...
I was watching two young children, maybe 6 and 8, who spotted a wooly bear in front of our house. The younger said, "Look! A capadiller!"
The elder gave her a disgusted look and in a voice dripping with distain replied, "It's not "capadiller", it's "CATTLEpillar!"

Look what I photographed a couple of days ago. It sure looks like the ones in the OP. A little more mature but very similar.

Sheesh... Squid don't even HAVE legs :-) You mean the tentacles, right? And they are the BESTEST part of Calamari; crunchy-yum...

Those things are revolting. :-P And they move like hot snot. On the plus side, the cats love them as a tasty treat.

WARNING! Big, scary bug!!! I almost had a heart attack when that monster came up on my screen! They ARE revolting and incredibly creepy and fast. Blech!
