I don't know how many people here are familiar with this optical illusion... but I just read about it yesterday and it blew my mind!



In this image, all of the grey bars have the same luminance values... don't believe me, take it to photoshop.

Theres a little writeup @ wikipedia, and a good explanation of what implications this has for editing, and some examles of what effect a black or white border can have on an images at naturescapes.net.

A very strong illusion, I can't bring myself to see both values as the same.
