I am happy with the idea of soft focus, and it is a technique I have been meaning to try for some time, so from that perspective the challenge is just right for me, but I am flummexed by the description 'use this technique in an effective way to convey a message to your viewer'. Any one have any ideas to get me started - I really don't have a clue!

A possible example - florals in soft focus tend to work because they convey a sense of beauty and peace. Children - soft focus may convey a sense of innocence. In other words, select a subject that makes some kind of sense rather than just soft focus on a shot and stick it into a challenge. This probably doesn't help any.... Oh! Kittens. Soft focus emphasizes the softness of their fur and their cuddly youthful stage. :-) Just a thought!

is it referring to using camera focus to achieve soft focus or post processing?

Either. But this is basic editing so you are limited in what you can do in PP.

All the prior challenges had the same "message"

Soft Focus I
Soft Focus II
Soft Focus III

(Sorry for the dupe post, but there seem to be two threads going for this one ...)
