The card was great in the camera. No sign of a problem.

Then I put in into the card reader on the computer (Mac imac g5 running Leopard). It didn't come up so I inserted it a few times (cards have reacted well to this in the couple of times I have done this in the past - not this time). Probably not a good sign but this has never happened before. Now the "disk" comes in as "unreadable". The camera no longer lets me use it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming that you have no "must save" images on the card, have you tried re-formatting the card in your camera? Is this your only card? If not, do your other cards still work in camera *AND* your card reader?

The other cards work fine. This is actually my smallest card but i would really like to get a few images off of it. It's not the end of the world though.

What happens when you plug it into the 300? And again, have you tried to reformat in the 300? Sounds like you're lucky and it's just the card.

Edit: Oooops, I may have mis-understood. If you have images on it def don't try to reformat. Maybe lend it to a friend with another brand of reader that might be able to see the card. Probably a lost cause though.

it appears to be just the card. The d300 tells me to use another card. I'm sure I could reformat but I was going to seek alternatives first because I think it might just be that it can't be read- but I bet the pics are OK.

I bet your right about the images. I'd suggest one of the many software solutions for retrieving lost/formatted/erased images, but I think the computer has to be able to read the card for this to work. I'll check with a couple of sources I know next week and get back to you.

If you want to take a chance with the images, you might try to force the 300 to format the card, even if it complains when you insert the card. I think the 300 uses the same 2 buttons for a reformat. If that works and the camera recognizes the card, take it out and see if the reader recognizes it. If it does, then the recovery software should be able to retrieve the images.

Warning: this could destroy the images.

In any event good luck, and thank goodness it's not a bent pin on your card reader or D300!!!!

Thanks. Yeah, I suppose this could be much worse. :/
