A friend and I shoot weddings together. He and I both use Canon equipment and shoot in RAW. He has a MAC and I have a PC. When we burn our images to DVD we can't open each other's images for some reason. I've tried CS2, DPP and Lightroom without any luck :( Does anyone know why this would happen and if there's some way that we can open each other's files???

Thanks!

removed. Missed the part you both had the same camera.

They both have the same file extention? When you burned the disk, you burned a data disk?

Yes, all are cr2 files. I should have clarified - we have the same manufacturer (Canon), but different models (his is a 40D, mine is an XT and an XTi). Yes, we burned data disks. I can't figure out why we aren't able to open each other's files in any of the programs I mentioned.....

The 40D raw files are different from the 350D raw files.

On the Mac,
Open iPhoto,
click "Help" at the top
search "burn cd for windows"
I think that the same steps apply to CS2 except that you "save as" instead of "export" the images to the file to burn.
I use a program called Toast, by Roxio with my Mac for that operation, and it seems to work well for me. I only shoot jpg though. Raw may be different.

I'm not sure about what format DVDs/CDs burn information in, but I've had the same problem transfering files via external harddrive. The FAT32 format is readable by both computers.

I just checked the memory card for my camera. Its formated in MS-DOS file system (FAT 16) and i know it is readable on both systems.

(i'm on a Mac btw)

Well, I finally figured it out! I needed to update the file drivers in Lightroom, and then I needed to copy the disk(s) to my system first in order to read them in anything else. Go figure.

40D files need CS3 (not readable in CS2) or Lightroom to open. DPP (latest version) should have been able to handle them though.

As far as copying the files to your computer first before opening I don't see why. Didn't lightroom let you import to a new location?
