Ok, so my friend likes to use Elements because it's simple. He uses elements 2.0 that came with his 300D.

He does a lot of printing for classes - notably a large number of .bmps from dvd's used as one-time worksheets for students.

He's been running dual Epson printers for a while since they have excellent result and can use refillable ink tanks externally. It's a setup that works for him and he goes through an average of 300 sheets a week.

Recently, and for no adequately apparent reason, Photoshop elements got all 'gummed up'. It is starting VERY slowly (40 seconds to a minute to start the app compared to 2-3 seconds previously) and loading images is painstaking. Additionally, anything to do with these printers seems to take a bit longer, but isn't too bad. I can print directly from Canon DPP without any troubles.

I have narrowed the problem down to a problem with PS elements and the printers.

I fully uninstalled and removed the printers. In any combination, as a single printer installed, or as two printers installed, it ALWAYS causes very bad problems for PSE.

Oftentimes, the process for printing also includes choosing printing preferences to choose page orientation. Meaning almost 5 minutes, just to load PSE, load a single image, choose the correct page orientation, and send to printer. Compared to 20 seconds previously, this is atrocious.

I have uninstalled and re-installed PSE (yes, completely scrubbed, not just a regular uninstall) three times. I downloaded and installed a trial version of PSE 6.0 with no change... the only difference is that the program itself can load without trouble... the delay to load an image however is even longer. This is true for all types of images, .jpg's .bmps etc...

I have completely removed all traces of epsons drivers and started from scratch five times. I have used drivers downloaded as well as those on the CD.

I cannot find anything on google about this. I am currently attempting on his mac book

Four and a half hours later and I'm still at square one.

Does anyone have any input?

Ended up with some success on the mac. The mac is a bit slower than the PC in general and maybe 50% slower than the PC with PS elements. However, 50% slower than normal... which means that the normal 3-4 second load time is now more like a 5-6 second load time. There are no printer conflicts on the mac since macs handle printers a bit differently.

I was unable to solve the problem on the windows XP based PC. From where I was sitting, the only remaining recourse was to re-install windows to see if that helped. Just wasn't worth it for the slim chance that it presented.

His computer is an offline, nearly exclusive PS elements/printing machine. Likelihood of an infection that got by me is very, very, very low.

If anyone else has input, it would be appreciated, but for now, the matter seems closed.

Thanks anyhow.
