As opposed to the G version with VR? How is it? I think I may try to pick one up if I can find it cheap (and I get a little... stimuli, if ya know what I mean ;) Is the VR really a dealbreaker, and should I save up for that one?
EDIT: I guess it's not the D version... Just the plain ol' 105mm f/2.8 AF Macro.
EDIT, again: OK, so I'm indecisive :P Any other macro lenses I should maybe consider, such as a Sigma or Tammy?

Yes, I do! And it's probably my absolutely all time favourite lens. I have used it for some non-macro shots too (not got any I can put my hand on straight away) - it's awesome.
I have quite a lot of macro shots in my portfolio taken with this lens. I can't imagine the VR being much use on a macro lens, as normally, they recommend turning off VR if it's tripod mounted, so, I'm not sure how worthwhile that VR functionality is? I always use a tripod when doing macro shots, so it would be pointless for me. (Just trying to think logically here......)
ETA. This was taken with the 105 - clearly not a macro :) Definitely very sharp.

| Cool! Any idea where I could find one of these things? I looked at Adorama and B&H and neither had anything. They're tough to come by. |

| Hmm. I got mine on e-bay - I was pretty lucky I think. |
