I just got aAF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5~5.6G IF-ED. I also have a Bower MC 2X N/AF teleconverter.

When I put it on the lens it seems to work/magnify (except autofocus and VR).....but when I read the lens manual it states that all model teleconverters are incompatible.

Did I/ Will I do damage to the lens using this manual focus teleconverter?

As long as there is no mechanical interference you should be fine. The lens won't know it's mounted on anything, and the camera won't know anything is mounted. So you'd be using the camera in the mode(s) that are compatible with a completely manual lens, and manually focusing.
Your main problem is going to be aperture control. AFAIK, with a G lens there is not aperture ring on the lens, and you can't control it from the body. Shooting wide open, on a zoom, with a 2x converter will give... very soft results. I especially have reservations about the Bower converter.

thank you kirbic.....I really only put it on to see if it magnified. looks like t really isn't worth the effort as I will have a longer reach but not a quality photo. I recieved the teleconverter as a xmas gift, but have not used it on anything.

I believe the 18-200 and probably all lenses but this is the only one I own, is fully closed when not mounted, so I think he would be shooting at F22-36?
