I wanted to go and vote in the healthy food challenge but I am afraid I will give lots of low scores. The challenge was about making health food which has a reputation of being unappetizing but I see so many submissions that is just regular food that most people find appetizing. Do you guys consider mostly how well it fits the challenge or just whether you like the photo or not?

I think you may be overthinking this one. Remove the first sentence and focus on the second.

Take a photo of any kind of healthy food and make it look delicious.

I don't think the idea was to take a healthy but unattractive food and make it look good thus the "any kind of healthy food". Fruits, veggies, etc. are all healthy. I think the first sentence was just social commentary on how people tend to think about "healthy foods". The idea was to make healthy look delicious though one might initially envision tasteless bran twigs. :)

Don't be afraid to give low votes ifyou feel the shot deserves it. That's what this place is about. If you give out low scores a good thing to do is to leave comments explaining why you are giving the low score. Believe it or not, that sort of constructive criticism is actually encouraged and appreciated here. I'd much prefer to get some low votes with an explanation, than to have my "masterpiece" bombing and no idea why.

I vote on all aspects photographic & challenge! I do think you are misinterpreting health food and healthy food are not quite the SAME thing, I didn't enter this challenge, but did vote/comment 100% on it, and i think if youi view it with an open mind you will find some excellent, relevant pics there.

The challenge wasn't "health food," it was "healthy food": For some, healthy food has the reputation of being unappetizing. Take a photo of any kind of healthy food and make it look delicious. The photo should be good enough to appear in a health food magazine.

On a quick scan through the thumbnails, I would classify most if not all the food there as healthy.

Just my 2¢...

I didn't even realize how the OP was interpreting the challenge. I would also define healthy food as anything healthy, and health food as a specific genre of products. This is an excellent example of how people can interpret a challenge theme so differently from each other.

I guess what made it confusing for me was that it states "For some, healthy food has the reputation of being unappetizing", what is the point of this statement if it has nothing to do with what we should shoot. I understand the second part "Take a photo of any kind of healthy food and make it look delicious. The photo should be good enough to appear in a health food magazine". If I see a photo of a strawberry I don't relate to it being unappetizing no matter how it is shot, unless of course it is a rotten strawberry. So to me how can I make it look delicious if it is delicious no matter what, just by the fact that it is a strawberry. I was thinking more of something that is good for you but most of the time you just can't make yourself eat it and take a photo of it so it would look so delicious that you would actually be willing to give it a try. Maybe I am thinking too much.

Well, I'm a picky eater who does not like some vegetables, so If you could present me with a shot of asparagus or broccoli that makes it look delicious to me, that would, IMO, be 100% on topic.

Yes, I think you are over-thinking it, but that doesn't mean you can't personally favor those who do just that. However, to think a piece of fruit would be DNMC seems a bit rigid.
