Knowing how badly I wanted to switch over to canon and get some REALLY good lenses, my parents went way beyond anything I could ever expect and are getting me a Canon 40D, Canon EF 50mm 1.2L and a Canon EF 24-70mm 2.8L and my grandpa threw in a polarizer filter for my birthday which is on June 2nd! I am so shocked and SO grateful and have been dancing constantly with joy. My camera arrives tomorrow and the lenses get here Friday!! They got it all for me early because I am shooting a wedding on May 10...

Just thought I would share my joy!!

Congrats! And Happy Birthday!

I'm thinking that there may have been some appreciation for the level of work you've done that they went to such great lengths to enable your work.

I know I've seen much work from you I'd classify as stunning.

Maybe it's a two way thing, eh?.......8>)

Welcome to the Dark side...I mean Canon world :D

Haha :-D My parents have always been really supportive of whatever art mania I am a part of, I have gone through everything from beading to weaving...they got me a loom so I could weave my own cloth...I am weird...but yeah so they really love seeing all the work I do and now that I have a pretty successful headshot business up and running they wanted to get me something that would pay for itself over time, which this new equipment will definitely do.

Do yourself a favor and make sure it is insured. Congrats BTW.
04/29/2008 04:02:49 PM · #19
how can you insure your stuff?
04/29/2008 04:19:45 PM · #20
We were looking into that and I don't know if my family can afford insuring my equipment...which is uncool because I have a set of 2 alien bees lights that really should be insured too...they have insurance things for dorms and renters and whatnot, but I am not sure what equipment would fall into
04/29/2008 04:47:54 PM · #21
oh you can give me all your equipment. I can take good care of it. :P

I have my gear insured on contents insurance under personal items. I set the amount at £2K...you can set it at any level you want, just means you pay extra for that cover.

PS: Make sure you have serial numbers and photos of the equipment for claims purposes.

Yeah I have all my serial numbers and photos and stuff. I talked to my dad about insuring my stuff again today and I think we might go ahead with it.
