I ordered a 50mm 1.8 brand new from Adorama and it was on backorder, they said it would be two weeks, now it's been 3. I got an e-mail saying
"Unfortunately, the manufacturer let us down, and now we let you down.
We apologize for being off our estimate.
Adorama is built on customer satisfaction and we try very hard to avoid situations like this.
I hope you understand that such situations are beyond our control.
We will of course rush to ship it as soon as we receive it.
Please be assured we are constantly following up with the manufacturer to get your backorder shipped out.
However, If your need is time sensitive, you may want to either call our sales department at (800) 223-2500, and they will be able to suggest an alternate choice, or you may e-mail us at service@adorama.com to cancel.
We'd be sorry to lose your order, but we'd be sorrier to lose you as a customer.
Thanks again for choosing Adorama."
So I just called and before I knew what was happening they were over-nighting a reburbished lens to me. The lens was slightly cheaper than the new, but the over-night charge brought it all the way back up. The guy talked way too fast. I asked him if I could return it if it didn't work, he said 'of course', gave me his name (which i didn't understand), and not half a second later he hung up and a confirmation e-mail popped up at the same time. I'm still a bit flustered over the whole phone call. I knew I should have let my mean ass co-worker call for me. I guess my question is how bad did I screw up?

| Doesn't sound like you really screwed up, in my experience, refurbished equipment has never been problematic. I would have demanded they pay for the overnight shipping, though. You may want to call back, and tell them if they really do want to keep you as a customer in the future, they will refund you all (or at least a portion) of the shipping costs. |

| They really are good with customer service. And if you're not happy, they will give you a full refund. |

| I think you are OK also, but I do agree that they should pay for the overnight shipping. I have dealt with them through my work and they have always been responsive. |

They will take it back. I had a similar issue when I ordered a Pentax DA 14mm 2.8 from them, and the first one arrived with a loose focusing ring. Called up and before I knew what happened a new lens was on its way, and a new charge on the credit card, and I had a moment of concern before shipping the first one back to that weird address they use for returns. BUT, the good news is the return went smoothly, and I was credited almost instantly when they received it ... much quicker than my experience with returns at B&H, where it seems to take a couple weeks for the return credit to be processed.
You might be stuck with the shipping charge, but given the delay in the order they should have shipped it for free as a courtesy. I would email them to see if they will reverse/eat that charge, or at least give you free overnight shipping on the new lens when it arrives. |

I think you're fine, and I think that they went the extra mile to inform you of the situation and provide alternatives. You elected the expedited shipping, so I don't see them as being responsible for that cost; on that I'll disagree with others.
FWIW, Adorama has historically had very good ratings, and even higher over the past 6 months. |

I bought a used polarizer filter and it arrived missing the retainer ring that holds one of the pieces of glass. I emailed them and got a full refund and I kept the polarizer. I fixed it with another old unused filter I had laying around. Their shipping is fast too.
As for the OP, you did ok as long as the lens is in near mint condition. |

I ran into a similar situation with Dell when I ordered a Sigma lens thru them last year. Long story short, there's a 'Federal Mail Order Rule' that kicks in at 30 days. I was actually informed of this by Dell, letting me know I had the right to cancel, etc...
Just an FYI. |

| I like Adorama for many reasons. That being said, I think it was not a wise choice to save pennies to get the 1.8 refurbished. The 1.8 is a "lightly" built lens in the first place. I would return it when it arrives and replace with a new under warranty lens. I speak from some experience, in that I did take a refurbished 1.4 50mm and returned it to Adorama. The refurbished lens was not up to standard, IMO. Easy for me because I live in the City. Adorama exchanged it without a word. I was in Adorama this morning - and I take my business to that company without a second thought. They are nice, pleasant customer service and their prints are first rate..... Just not a fan of any refurbished lenses. |

Well, I use to order all of our department's supplies through B&H. When B&H listed the lens I wanted as out of stock, I did a search and found the lens at Adorama. Having heard good things about it on DPC and other photogs in my family, I didn't hesitate. But so far, I'm just frustrated.
Lens was listed as in stock but wasn't.
Estimated time of delivery with 2-3 day priority shipping was 10-14 days (which was understandable since it was on backorder), but it's been a month. I've already missed out on having it on Outstanding Senior Day, which is the main reason I gave the Chair for buying it.
The representative I talked to early yesterday was hasty and rude. He talked really fast and was overbearing.
He did let me know how expensive overnight shipping would be, but I wanted it because it's the end of the year and there is lot going on in the department. (people graduating, retiring, etc.) Not that I can't use my other lens but this building is not very bright.
It didn't make it overnight... I still don't have it.
Plus, it's messing with the budget here and getting me in a little trouble. We are alloted only so much a month and the budget lady knows if this isn't shipped and charged to the credit card by yesterday, then not only are we out $200 for last month for not spending it, but we are spending $200 this month that wasn't planned on. That's why we place orders early in the month.
Knowing me, this post is probably the only stink I'm going to make about it, but the whole ordeal has been a real turn-off. They've lost future business with EKU.

I always go to B&H first. Adorama is sporadic IMO based on several transactions - they're usually a hesitant 2nd or 3rd consideration now.
Hope your situation clears up with them. If your order is nearing 30 days you may want to take a look at the post I made in here earlier about the federal rules and regulations on mail ordering. |

Call for a refund... don't take no for an answer. |
