First, I am just posting this because someone here might be interested.
DISCLAIMER:
I've not used this tripod, and it has the leg connection bar I hate about my old Slik U9000. But actually, in fact it looks a lot like the Slik UB9000. But much less expensive.
I personally use (and love) my Manfrotto 725B.
I am not recommending you dispose of this. That would be bad for the environment. But if you lost it, it would not be a big loss :)
So here it is, if you need a cheap tripod for anything:
KraftTech 60" Adjustable Camera Tripod w/ Nylon Carry Bag -New Factory Sealed for $10 with free shipping.
(from buy.com, where I've ordered lots of stuff and have been happy with them for years.)

I see it's their #1 moving item of the day.

| I bought one for $12 at Best Buy yesterday. It's a bit wobbly due to thin legs, but it's light and easy to tote. It should be at least as good as the $60 Quantaray piece of junk I bought that the legs won't stay locked. Yes, I need to invest in a decent tripod. |

Is it the same one? Kraftech 60"? (Others may want to know that, especially given the stability issue.) |

I need to invest in a decent tripod, too, but this $10. item may have some use (at 60" it's taller than my other tripod, at least). I just ordered one, thanks for the heads up.

I did a little more digging here to find some reviews. Evidently, this is one that Sears was selling for $3 a while back. And I got a kick out of this guy's review:
"Yes, legs are space-age aluminum, just like Coke is packaged in space-age aluminum. Don't put an SLR on one of these. I used one for a time-delayed family shot last year, and the whole family got to watch in horror as the tripod spontaneously collapsed. The camera's impact on the floor was softened by the crunching of the $700 lens that hit first. If you have a camera cheaper than this tripod, I say go for it. Otherwise, I recommend a stick and chewing gum, as the latter option is more reliable." |

No, it's not the same one. The Sunpak I bought was this one The legs are fairly thin when extended and that's why I said it was a little wobbly. It's still more stable than going handheld. If light weight and portability are the main considerations, then it's not a bad choice, but it is not as rock stable as something with heavier legs. I would not trust something large and heavy on it, but it should do ok for a smaller SLR with a modest size lens, or a larger compact like my Powershot S5. Maybe. I'll see. It was only $12.
