Hi,

Just got the results back from the "Off Screen" Challenge and I was excited to find I got a >>5th<< place! *jumps around*

Problem: I got an email for DPC asking for an original photo unedited for proof. I supplied the original, but noticed that it, and every other photo Ive ever taken, show the relevant date of creation and a MODIFIED DATE as well! The date modified is ALWAYS January 1 2003. I've only had the Camera since July 11 2003! PIE shows every photo ever, even when its fresh off the camera as modified on that date...

Whats going on, am I doing something wrong? HELP, I dont want to be disqualified

I could be wrong, but I dont think the modified date matters for dpc, but I found once my computer time was not set properly and when I started this feature no more problems...just a thought...hopefully someone else gives you a more definative answer.

Jarrad,
I suspect you are just looking at the general properties of the file.
You need to access the metadata or exif properties in a picture viewing program.
I can't explain the date modified being the same all the time though,it could be your computer time settings.
Everytime you move or edit etc. the modified date should change to the relevent date.
Paul.

Remember not to edit an original image, always work on a copy. When asked for the original either for top 5 or DQ request they need you to submit the original.

I have not edited the picture AT ALL. It came off the camera and thats it! My system clock is up to date and EVERY photo I've taken says the same thing. It says in "Picture Information Extractor":

Created: 07 March 2004 (or whatever)
Modified: 01 January 2003

I"m sure your image is fine, submit it and if there is a problem site counsil will work with you or explain the problems I'm sure!

Congrats BTW!

If your created date is showing correctly, then I am sure there is not much to worry about. Hard to modify the pic before it was created. (C;

Now I get 14th of 330 pictures and this photo has the same problem! No date on the camera! They ACTUALLY disqualified my last picture because the date on my camera was not set (even though the creation date showed up in PIE). *sob sob* So Im going to lose this photo/result too!

Jarrad, if you are using Windows, download version 3.00 of ExifReader. It is just a simple little tool and doesn't even need to be "installed", you just run it after extracting the zip file.

Launch ExifReader, and open one of the pictures you just downloaded from your camera. You will see all of the EXIF data that the Site Council uses when evaluating images that are submitted as "proof". The important ones are "DateTimeOriginal" and "DateTimeDigitized". If those say "0000:00:00 00:00:00", then the clock in your camera is not set and you need to set it before taking any shots you might submit. If the correct date/time is shown, you are all set.

I think it has been mentioned in the past that some older cameras don't retain the date/time setting if you leave the battery out for too long. But many cameras have a separate smaller battery that is used to maintain camera settings and the clock.

First time is probably an innocent mistake, second time is on you. Why doesn't your camera put the correct date to your images?
