I am hoping that somebody might be able to help me change the settings for my flash. I have gone away for the weekend and left my manual at home. Last time I used my flash it was in manual mode. I need to change it back to ETTL mode and just can't remember how to do it.
Many thanks in advance

I think you sometimes need a PhD to understand that thing. It's amazing that a flash can be so complex! However, I think all you're trying to do is change the "mode" of the flash. So just hit the "Mode" button until it says ETTL up in the top left corner.

| I thought it was that simple too - but it isn't working. It is just going between Manual and Multi but not ETTL |

I had an off-camera shoe cord go bad and the flash wouldn't communicate properly with the camera to allow e-ttl but would still fire. I forget if that was with my 580 I or II. Cleaned all the contacts and nothing. Flash worked fine when just on the camera's hotshoe, but not the cord. Make sure the flash is all the way on the hotshoe, or if on a cord make sure all contacts are nice and tight, and even try cleaning them with a pencil eraser.

| Since it appears you are online, why don't you go to www.canon.com and take a peek at the online manual? |
