I've been looking at digital photo frames for a while to display my photos at home, but have not made any decisions yet. They seem a pretty good solution if you have lots of images, but little room to display them. last week my friend recommended this Aluratek 12" Digital Photo Frame to me, seems decent to my request, but i want to get more suggestions.
Would appreciate feedback if you own a digital photo frame, specifically:
what brand(s) would you recommended
what size frame do you have - I've been looking at 12" frames
what do you think of them?
Thanks in advance |

Sad to say... I bought my wife one for Christmas. She kept it turned on until the novelty wore off. It hasn't been turned on since......

I've got one -- my mom gave it to me for Christmas.
I don't know where it is right now, so I can't tell you the "brand".
It displays a 5x7" picture, and I really like it. It came in handy recently when I went to a bridal expo and didn't have time to have a bunch of prints made. |

I bought an inexpensive one for my mother in law a couple of years ago ($59). It is pretty low res and the aspect ratio is ridiculously wide. I think you will be disappointed with a cheapie. I'd suggest spending a little more and getting one that displays at a resolution of 800x600 or better.

I got the Kodak...see link below. It is 8". My pics from my D70 fit nicely on it with very little cropping.
The resolution is excellent. It will display your pics the same way you see them on your computer screen. Nothing is lost...in my opinion.
The specs say it will play mov mpeg and avi video files. So far I got it to play mpeg and "raw" avi out of my sony, however, once I edit vids in Premiere and save back to avi or mov files...for some reason the frame won't recognize them. Mpeg1 and mpeg4 always work.
I have it on my desk at work and EVERYBODY stops by and looks at a few shots as the pass by. If they happen to be there when a vid is running...they are really impressed!
I've had two frames before this one and this one kills them all.
I got it for $108 from my local Best Buy.
Here is a link to Kodak...$150 here....search the net for better price.

How much electricity do they use compared to a framed 8x10?
That's my only problem with these digi frames. I can't accept the fact i'm wasting resources for my viewing pleasure. I would get one but only use it for when I have company or on special occasions. I can see many business applications too like in a photo studio waiting room or any waiting room actually. |

Husband got me one last year. I use it whenever we have a party...so that would be 10-15 times a year. I change the photos according to the occasion....Christmas, Easter, birthdays, basketball party, jetskiing party, Church party etc etc. I think it's great! Quality really good.
It's a Kaiser baas

Has anybody seen a SQUARE one yet? I hate that they are all made for landscape viewing only, you only get a tiny photo if it is upright.
I want a square one, so I get full sized photo in either direction, with simply black borders to make up the empty space in each case. |

| i got a philips, and i love it, just make sure there are no scalines (lines that go from left to right on a monitor or video screen) that makes the picture look bad, if you go to walmart and look at there displays youll understand what i mean, |
