have you noticed only like two people have been happy about there scores. were are the people doing all the low scoring? do they do it for fun or something? this pisses me off soo bad! i swear, all of my photos exept 2 have done so horribly (i think at least) that it makes me not even want to participate on the site anymore

there are always low scorers in the begining of a challenge,

i've only broken the top 50% once. i try so damn hard, but i understand its all just a game. i feel i shouldn't even enter photos i like cause they just get shot down

yeah its only a game, and we all subject ourselves to this masochistic pain.
Honestly I really question some votes though. Ive gotten some underated scores in the last few challenges. :(

Yeah but you get so much knowledge from learing WHY. That makes you a better photographer and pushes you to make better shots.

That my friend, is totally priceless!!!

I know the feeling - my first vote was a 3 --- I voted 100% and didn't give out anything below a 4.

I'm starting to think its people intentionally lowering scores to rush through the voting process; I noticed some of the ribbons or close to ribbons have even recieved 2's and 1's and 3's -pft; whatever... I'll be happy if people at least comment here in- I already know its a flush down the sewer-system shot from the 1st score -at least my shot in the other challenge got a 7 as its first score then it bombed... to start out icky 'well...its gotta be pretty icky... shoulda went with my instinct and not submitted it *heh* :) oh well its in for the duration now

One thing I have learned in my time here. Never take those first 50 scores too seriously. Its really only after a 100 votes or so when your score more or less "settles". The first 50 are all over the place regardless of the quality of your image.

Macro Without Bugs or Flowers II
Description: Take a macro shot (or at least an extreme close-up) of something that is not a bug or flower. For the purpose of this challenge, "bug" refers to any insect, arachnid, worm, larvae, etc. that would be classified in the arthropoda phylum.

With the description above, I am a little disappointed with a couple of comments already, re this macro challenge.

One apparently cannot have an image all in focus, but has to be focused in one area only.....
The description does not say that.
Some macros can be sharp and completely in focus, and also they can be partly focused, along with some DOF.

Am I wrong in saying this.....

I'm VERY happy with my score in this one so far! I think it's because I pulled my entry at the last minute. :-)

Shez, I consider you to be one of the best when it comes to macro, so if you are not scoring highly, then there is no hope of the rest of us!

I'm sitting at 5.28 right now and am somewhat disappointed.

The problem with the way the voting works is just like all of us voters come in all flavors, both completely new to photography, and those who are experts. Sadly since becoming an expert takes time and effort, it is realistic to believe that the majority of voters are inexperenced. At least that is my story and I'm sticking to it. 18 votes and 5.0, that is below half, meaning people hate it more than they like it.
