My guess is that you have the DPC IP cached in, and links inside DPC's site are 'relative'. Can't get anywhere else due to a DNS problem. My guess, anyway.

Kay, that worked and got me onto yahoo only but wouldn't let me navigate any further.. Now, I've totally cleared my computer of everything and I still can only get onto DPChallenge.. Why would that happen. ?? I had DP up and walked away, changed the laundry and did some things, came back to my computer to look at some listings and all this happened.. What can I do to fix this?? |
That link is the IP address, no DNS required. Seems to me your Internet Service Provider is having issues with its Domain Name Servers.
You could try adding one of my Bell DNS servers to you TCP/IP.

#1, I'm on windows Vista and it's not worded that same way and I don't know which option to chose.. Once I go to my control panel, I can chose from either "internet options" or "network and sharing center"... So, which do I chose..
#2, I don't believe there is a cable plugged into this computer because I'm on a wireless router and it's in the other room.. Does that make a difference ??
#3, I still don't understand why if I'm having problems with my server, would I still be able to connect to DPChallenge ??? Thoughts ??
To add the above IP, go to Control Panel, Network Connections, right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties. Go to TCP/IP Properties, and enter the above IP address as a DNS server. (I'm assuming you have an ethernet cable plugged into you PC, and not using dialup).
That should get you around your ISP's crapped-out DNS servers. |
sorry, not sure why all the stuff I just wrote came up in italic..

I think the problem is basically with your provider's DNS servers. I'd give them a call, if you're in the mood to speak with someone in India, helpdesk to the world. The easiest thing to do is wait it out. I imagine it'll be fixed before the day is over. Until then, hopefully the telephone still works. :-)

What a riot - and so practical. :o)
ETA - I just put in dpchallenge.com to see what it would say and the answer was - it's not just down for you, it's down for everyone! lol!! It's not down for me at all...

Oh, good. It's probably because I just finished Defragmenting the Internet. I thought the Internet was getting a little slow anyway, and could benefit from a good optimization.
