I was asked if I'd like to display some of my photography at a local educational/outreach facility. The University of Wisconsin Space Place is the outreach arm of the UW Astronomy Department. They've got about 10,000 square feet of classroom space, lecture hall, and museum-type exhibits. They wanted to get rid of some tired old space posters they'd had hanging forever and asked me if I'd like to display some of my astrophotography there.

Are you kidding me? I jumped at the chance. They do kids activities (with lots of parents picking up/dropping off) and have a lecture series that draws lots of local science types. Very nice traffic area.

I set it up tonight. I selected 8 of my astro-themed photos and had them nicely framed in 1" mattes under glass. My wall is the entry area that everyone goes through as they enter to hang coats and enter the various rooms of the center. Here are a few shots. I also put up an "about the photographer" with a little bio and a business card holder that has my email contact info and my DCPrints web address. Woo-hoo:

Does this make me a real fertogrofer? Arteest?

Awesome!! Congrats. Just hope they don't hang the coats on the pics.

Very nice!!

One small thought: if you can take the individual information cards that are tucked in the frames and mount them on a bit of foam core, stick em to the wall near each image, then they won't be covering up any part of your excellent imagery.

That is an excellent idea and one I plan to implement. Thanks!

very cool! and it also looks good :D

since we can add suggestions (grin), I think the portrait-oriented photo at the top right doesn't fit in the rest of the bunch.. Maybe select another photo, landscape-oriented?

Congrats on your gallery. Good to see people getting their work exposed, and in a fitting venue like the Space Place.

Enjoy.

Yeah, I struggled with that one, but I really love that shot of the Orion Nebula and it's a shot that just can't work in landscape mode, so I went with an odd duck. The nice thing is that I always have access to this display and can change it over time. I may very well replace that one eventually with a different shot as I rotate other prints in and out.

Congratulations on the nice display space. You have terrific work so it's nice to have it displayed well.
When you rotate your images, and often is good, you might change the display pattern as well. that way the viewers won't get used to any one format and it keeps your collection fresh and exciting.

Hmmm, is that facing wall in the "L" yours too (where the tray table is)? Great spot for a solo big shot.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Alice. Yeah, I'm pretty sure she'd tell me to go ahead and use the 90 deg "L" wall too if I want to. Excellent idea to put a larger shot there. I have a few 16x24" candidates that I could toss there right now, or even get a new one made for the spot. I love the idea!
