Payment is made to the studio, which accepts PayPal for workshop registration fees. PayPal takes credit cards but I don't know for sure if they take American Express or just Visa/Mastercard/Discover. We do not accept credit cards directly. |

(if I included Mother's Day, please remove that from my list).

Steve, we are having a meet and greet with Adam and for any interested models and photographers here at the studio on the 19th, which you mention as one of your available dates.
Our next workshop with Adam is on the 26th, which is part of the regular workshop series. Info here: //www.starkravenmusic.com/workshop.html . We've been announcing these about a month in advance, so keep an eye on the workshop website, or watch for posts here on DPC as well, for each new date. Or PM me your email address if you would like to be included in the emailing of studio events/announcements.
The dates on the web site are part of our open workshop series, which are separate from the special booking offer we have made to DPC members in this thread. However anyone interested is certainly more than welcome to register for any of the workshops we hold. |

5/10 would be good if we have enough people. Half-day right? 5/11 would be tough it being Mother's Day (my wife would go ballistic if I took off). |

Thanks - I already emailed you guys so hopefully am on the list. Going camping on the 26th (but, to be honest, I'd rather be taking pictures of semi-nude chained-up women - hey a new license plate frame...). The meet-and-greet sounded interesting, but as I'm just a "serious hobbiest" looking to see if this could be a career-change, I feel like I would be out of place. |

Thats the beauty being a 'Serious Hobbiest' is OK. Its not like Im making a living off of it. Most times it seems like more of a hobby to me then anything else. But my plan is to be there on the 19th. Cause ya know, it never hurts to network, or for that mater meet new and very interesting people L()L.
Semi-Nude? Hmm you must be looking at the wrong workshop L()L. I thought most were very Artistically nude. 6-;
All the same, I think it would be a blast to see more DPCers there and stuff. And I am not really as scary in person as my images lead one to believe. At least I don't think I am? Whats says you?

After posting I went to look again and realized that semi-nude was being conservative! :-)

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what to shoot, and still a bit nervous about actually doing it (and hiring a model, etc.) Imagining me doing the shoots you have scares the hell out of me (but in a good way), hence the desire for a workshop to ease into it.
I may try and make it to the meet&greet, except I'm in the San Fernando Valley and we have plans that evening from about 5 on (an earlier workshop would work, the evening is locked though).

Well you don't have to shoot what I shoot, I am kind of a specialty breed L()L. During the open house would be the best time to show up and shoot models. Because its pretty much just having fun and a looser social networking thing. Like showing the capabilities the studio can supply to.
The workshops are a learning environment. Takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.
However, there is talk about an 'Model Directing' type of event. Teaching photographers how to work with models more fluidly and easily. I know how intimidating it can be when first starting out. But you may get to the point of telling a naked girl to dump a bucket of blood on her head and not even think twice L()L.
If you can't make this one I am sure they are going to be planing more, and the studio is ridiculously low to rent and they supply the lights. You can't go wrong there. And to tell you the truth, I don't pay models. I don't know a photographer that does, well collectors but thats a different story. Most time its a collaboration between the photographer and model or its just some good old fashioned fun.

This is what I aspire to (or something close to it).
A model directing event would be great - something to take the initial "edge" off.
The write-up said the networking event wouldn't be a shoot but that we could bring cameras. So it's just a casual thing? Like I'll be standing there talking to a model and I can just say "Hey, how about a shot? And oh, I'm sorry, you'll need to take your clothes off first, ok?" because I could see how that would be a fun event too. ;-) |

I think Wendy said that camera are allowed if someone wants to get a test shot, or an image to help remember who the model is and stuff. There won't be anything 'set up' I assume. However, I also suppose it comes down to what the model wants/willing to do.

We aren't going to have lights and sets set up for this event like we've been doing for the open house events. If someone wants to stand against one of the backdrop walls and let you grab a test shot, no problem. There won't be full-production images coming out of the meet and greet event like we have set up for with the open house events. Nudity is always optional, but if you see anyone taking their clothes off, it's probably because they've worked together before. Never can be completely certain what will end up going on, but this event will have a lot of new people meeting each other, and I would expect it to be a little more conservative than the crazy party we had for the last couple of open house nights. As Andrew said, definitely a very appropriate event for photographers and models on any level. It's sounding like we are going to have a range from hobbyist to experienced professional photographers, and amateur to agency models at the event. Great to meet people at various positions in the industry, talk to people about various gigs and types of work, and find people who you might be mutually interested in working with, or even that you might aspire to work with in the future. |
