I know there have been similar posts recently but none relating to the 20D unless I'm mistaken.

I'm just wondering whether it would be worth upgrading to the 20D from my 350D (assuming I can't afford a 30D which I probably can't) - the main advantages would be better build quality, cleaner high ISO's and ISO 3200. Extra focus points also useful. Obviously no spot metering until the 30D. FPS doesn't bother me.

Also, a small proportion of images out of my 350D, irrespective of lens, come out OOF - could I expect better focusing accuracy with the 20D?

Perhaps it might be better to wait until I could get the 30D... Could I have some advice that would help me be more decisive?

P.S. Remember I am a student with no money so please don't reply telling me to get a 40D unless you can buy one for me! ;)

actually, the 20d has known focus problems. you're probably better off keeping the 350d (i still love my rebel xt even though i have a 40d).

I think you might be better of using the money for a lens or other accessory. marginal improvement. But obviously depends on how much you pay for it.

No.
The 20D was a breathrough camera, just like the Model T or VW beetle, the first mustang or minivan. But it's old tech these days - generations old. For $400 maybe.
I'd say keep saving and get a 40D - worlds better than the 30 or 20, and yes, the 30 is a a lot better than the 20. I own them all (and had a 300D before that). The speed at which the newer camera(s) process, display, etc is amazing, and the lower noise of the newer ones is also worth the cost/wait.

I made this upgrade about a year ago.
It was a huge jump for me, and I'm really glad I did it.

That said, I'd save up a little and get the 30 or 40.
The 20 is just too old at this point.

Thanks for the advice guys - you've saved me from a potentially unwise purchase there. Might just be able to stretch to a 30D at some point which I think would be worth it.
