I just got my SB600 flash from Buydig.com, who I've been happy with before.

But I suspect this was an "open box" item.

First, the NKSB600 box wasn't sealed in any way, nor were any of the internal bags (though it was neatly packaged). At that point, it was ambiguous whether it was an open box item. But the flash itself has at least one small scuffs on the plastic (not significant, but there), and a careful inspection of the gold plated contacts at the bottom show signs that it has been on a camera (I have yet to do that). Not often, but at least once. It's very faint BTW, I just looked at it with a magnifying glass to confirm based on my suspicions about the box.

It's probably no big deal, but I don't think it's legal to sell open box items as New without indicating that (I recall Dell and some others got in trouble for that years back with parts).

But before I write to buydig.com, I'm curious if anyone knows if these come as "factory sealed" boxes, or if I would expect internal bags to be sealed rather than simply folded over. (And perhaps the marks on the gold contacts are from Nikon testing?)

Dunno about flashes because I don't have one, but my Nikon camera box wasn't sealed nor were the bags. Neither were either of my lenses.

Maybe phone somewhere in your area that sells the brand and ask them to look for you?

If I buy new, I expect everything to be sealed. If not, then I would contact sellers and query the item, it may well be a display model, and as such is not new and should be discounted.

I bought a Canon 300D, it had been used as a display model and I got a discount. The mirror assembly dropped out of its mounting within a week. The camera was replaced with a new, unopened box.

Since then, I have never considered display or open box items.

I would get in touch with them and just ask outright if it had been bought and returned, or was a display model. If so, they should replace it or give you a discount:)

No seal. I don't recall a plastic bag. There is a padded case, a plastic base, and the manual. That's all I remember.

My SB-600 was in a bag but not sealed.

My box was not sealed also. Maybe a bag for the flash. Can't remember

I'll check when I get home. I've still got my box and all contents for my SB-800.

Mine was definitely bagged. The empty is in the box.

I don't think the box was sealed when I got it. Nothing on the outside of the box hints at such.

ok thanks, I'll just assume all is well. :)

And give it a try, and see if it works!
