I ran across this Tamron 28-300 for $225 used. Best price I'm seeing in a quick online search is around $300. Looking at this to replace a Canon 70-300 and the 18-55 kit lens. I might keep the kit lens around for when I need a little more wideangle. Perhaps they might give me a trade in on the 70-300 as well...
Opinions?

That was the first lens I purchased after owning kit lens and I have been very happy with it. It's not the fastest lens and it is a little soft at the extremes but I really like having the versatility of both a wide angle and close zoom.

It's my everyday, and most days lens for about six months now and I love it!
There are better lenses at different points in the focal ranges if you wanna carry a bunch of lenses.....I don't!
Here are my six best shots with the lens.
A fairly wide variety of imagery.....

I had this lens with my 350D.
Very versatile lens indeed. I actually did some test shots with this, My 50mm 1.8 and a 70-200 F4L. Conditions must have been good as many colleagues picked the Tammy shot out as the L lens!
The zoom extends out when the camera is pointed down as it is quite loose, though that would be my only grumble.
Mine didn't come with the lens hood, though I believe this later came as standard?
Tamron also announced an image stabalised version of this last year. Unsure if it actually is available yet, but that would be a great addition! |

Sounds like a decent lens, especially for this price, thanks.

Thanks for the opinions. I went ahead and bought it. They gave me a reasonable trade in on the 75-300 that this is taking the place of, so I got it for a very good price.
Here's a shot from the first set of pics I shot with it, on the way home.
As Pix-al noted, I did find the lens extends or retracts a little when pointed up or down. I'll quickly acquire the habit of holding the zoom barrel. Not a biggie.
