Am off to the Isle of Mull with Talj on Saturday and as the break is predominately for landscape shots and driving we will be visiting the Sea Eagle nest on Loch Frisa. The nest is a fair way from the hide so will be taking the 300/2.8 and 1.4 and 2x converters (and trying to sneak the 100-400 in the car). For landscape I'll be using the 410 geared head so don't really want to take the 128RC head as well so was thinking of packing the monopod - do we all agree this is the wisest choice?
Can't take everything as I'm driving the Brabus and space is sort of at a premium (already can't have the roof down driving there and back)

For birds I would go with the monopod and the 100-400. That way you only lose a half stop (vs the 300 and a 1.4) and gain IS. A good combo with a monopod.

| For birds I tend not to use either. Much easier to move around to follow birds without the hindrance of a tripod or monopod. |

| Thanks peeps, am ok hand holding the 100-400 (IS rocks) but the 300 is both too darned heavy and lacking IS to hand hold for more than a few minutes. Am guessing it will mainly be the nest I shoot (eggs were laid in March) but don't want to miss any fly pasts they do - guess I'll leave my clothes at home and take everything lol |

Can't you just have both bodies with a lens on each? That way you are ready for either situation :o) And yes, if you can leave the bottle of single malt behind then the 100-400 can come with us ;o) |

Well, of course I will, though that makes the tripod a better option for the 300 trained on the nest and the 100-400 roaming the skies ;) (how about I put my 128RC on your tripod?) |

I think it's highly unlikely that I will be taking any pics there so you are more than welcome to use my tripod ;o) So, problem solved? :o) |
