If like me you've been very disappointed by the N95 stability, fear not - help is at hand.

The very latest firmware (v20) is a SIGNIFICANT improvement over previous versions. The only downside is that most updates to UK phones (Orange, O2, Voda) are limited to the v13 update. I have no idea why the UK operators are restricting the distribution of this (I suspect it has something to do with VoIP) but we the users are suffering extremely old buggy software because of it.

The answer is to change the product code in the phone. This is an easy process that ANYONE can do, and shouldn't break your phone at all. I did it last night and it took me 2 minutes to do (2 to change the product code, 15 to download and update the phone).

Your phone will be faster, more responsive, more stable, more features - all round better (including better image quality in video and photo). For Orange users, change the product code from 0548170 (the orange one, which should be already present) to 0534841 (the EURO 1 - Sand one). Then when you goto Nokia Software Update app the latest v20 software will be available and downloadable.

Instructions on how to do it below. With regards to the legalities of it, I honestly have no idea. All you are doing is upgrading your firmware so I can't believe it's terrible (and it's my phone/contract - why can't I have the latest most stable firmware??!). Up to you.

Updating your Nokia N95 to the latest firmware, debranding, and/or changing the language pack is similar to the guide I wrote earlier on updating to Nokia N73 Music Edition. If you are a new Nokia N95 owner, this might be helpful to you, especially those with missing features.
Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.
1. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click âScan for new deviceâ on the right-upper part of the window
3. Click on the icon âPhone infoâ
4. Click on âScanâ
5. Change the product code to the one you want from the list below.
6. Mark the case âEnableâ.
7. Press âWriteâ, and your phoneâs product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but donât worry, the product code changed !).
8. Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
9. Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
10. Thatâs it! When you restart your phone, it should now be upgraded!
