So, the obvious answer is just to not rely on security anywhere near your OS layer, because the vulnerabilities are all with the default installed OS applications - i.e. non-PC firewall (e.g. in router/modem) doing address translation (NAT or packet filtering, or better). And encrypt everything sensitive.

It still surprises me that there hasn't been made a desktop network OFF switch, that you plug your PC ethernet into, and then again into your switch...so at night, or times you're AFK, you just kill the network (virtual unplug). Not perfect but nice and simple.

i reckon you could go into network properties and just disable it...not too troublesome

There's still room for more inventions -- go for it. Or just really unplug the cable and your (electronic) security is complete. Of course with everyone so hot to use wireless networking ... :-(

I still have a working Color Classic running OS 6. I also have the plans to turn it into an aquarium! ;-)

I believe I still have an SE also running OS 6, and a US Robotics modem which would enable it to function as a fax machine and a ten-box voicemail system if I needed such ... and there's nothing quite like editing photos on a 9" Black&White monitor ;-)

You can do this in ZoneAlarm. Handy feature.
