Is there a way on my MK 2 to switch between full focal to a selected single focal point on the fly?

Thanks.

What does the manual say? ;oP

On other Canon cameras there's the * button on the back (upper right), that allows you to change on the fly. Push that button, turn the main dial to select the focal point then continue shooting.

I know that button well, I am looking for a one button push, on the fly, instead of having to push in the 'star' button, turn the wheel and go.

Thanks.

How would it know which point to choose? Unless you have a favourite point that you use all the time I can't see much use for that.

I haven't owned a 1D in awhile, but I remember there was an assist button, that automatically took you to 1 focal point that was preset to your choosing. Not sure if that helps you.

With all due respect, it is what you know what I am after.

FYI, using a prime lens, (a prime lens has a fixed focal point), I am interested in certain situations during a sporting event to capture images that may require a center focal point, and certain situations where full focal points are required.

It is not about favorite, I don't have a second MK 2, yet, I can not find anything in the manual, and I am addressing the membership in case someone out there has a clue about what I am after.

Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up on the 'assist' button.

Will look for that.

Found the AF Assist Beam which is for a dedicated Speedlight, but can not find which button is the "assist" button.

In my Canon 40d, you can go into C.Fn III-3 (AF point selection method) and choose to directly select a focus point using either the Multi-Controller (the "joystick") or the Quick Control Dial (the big round dial on the back).

I normally use the Multi-Controller to choose my AF point. It's quick and direct, and it also lets me quickly push the controller straight in to jump to the center AF point, if needed.

Check your manual. I'd be surprised if the Mark II didn't have such a feature.

cool. A little awkward until you get used to it, especially for the points on the left.

Good info, Les.

Though setting it to the quick control dial means that changing the aperture is done with the main dial and AF point button instead. (you probably already knew that though)
