In just a bit I'll have the opportunity to go to a town hall meeting where Hillary will speak. I talked to the local mayor's office and they said that photography is allowed but that we'll have to pass through metal detectors. Sure was a bit unsure about any issues with taking a camera with a big lens on it. The event was put together quickly so I'm not sure where to get the information.
I want to take the 70-200 with extender on it, and perhaps a small lens or two in my pocket. Does anybody have any experience on what is allowed or not? I don't want to get up there and get turned away since people have been lined up since early this morning and parking is supposed to be awful. |

Thanks. I'll be sure to report back here, hopefully with lots of pictures. I have the 24-70 in the car so I'll ask about it if I get rejected. |

I forgot to reply to this until I just read a similar thread. I took the 70-200 and they let me in no problem. I also had the kit lens since I wanted something wider and wanted a lens that fit into my pocket.
We had to turn cameras on to show they were real and they just gave it a quick once-over with the rest of our metal stuff while we passed through the metal detectors. The local cops did the inspections while secret service did the metal detectors. The cops were respectful of the equipment; one thing I was concerned about.
The big disappointed is that they wouldn't let us on the ground floor (bigshot area) and so we were off to the side. Before the event started I was able to stand in the bleacher above and get a few straight-on pictures, but when the event started they wouldn't let anybody back there.
Lighting could have been much better but I ended up with a few couple decent shots at least. |
