This is probably going to be a difficult question, but the answer would really help in understanding how to get similar bokeh with different lenses.
If I took a photo with a pin-light in the background, and I focused on a quarter held 5 feet closer to me from the background while I stood again 5 feet further away from the quarter, then I could dial in the f-stop on a 50mm lens to make the blur of the pin light match the size of the quarter.
Therefore:
1) If I changed my lens to a 100mm, would the f-stop remain the same (thought both the quarter as well as the bokeh would appear larger in the frame due to the larger focal length)?
and
2) If I stepped 5 feet further away so that the ratio of subject distance to background became 2:1, how much would I need to change the f-stop down (is there some relationship like if I doubled the subject/background distance, I would have to halve the f-stop)?
