Hey All -
I had my best results so far for the Fence challenge we just had. I came in 14th. I converted my original image to B&W instead of using the color, which was almost straight out of the camera. A few voters left the comment that they think it would have looked better in color. Was wondering what your thoughts were.

Here is a link to the B&W, which I submitted for the challenge.

Sorry I have to link you out of DPC, but I do not have the pro account as of yet.
I think I'm kicking myself for not using the color. Thoughts?
Thanks!

The one is color is gorgeous! Just out of curiosity, what made you decide to convert it to B&W? |

There's much more contrast and interest for me in the colour version. |

I love black and whites, and scored your high, but after seeing the colour one, if that had been in the challenge next to the black and white, i would have voted higher on the colour. |

I think your conversion could have been crisper and a bit brighter. That said, I like both. The color would have done maybe a place or two higher here, as color is generally more appreciated (note that I said "generally") than B&W. (I personally prefer B&W but I'm a minority.) And I used to live near there, in South Riding. Very nice shot! |

I like the color one better. Both are great. |

The colour version has far more impact and is visually more pleasing. I think for this one, B&W wasn't the right way.
It is still a good shot, but lacks the punch of the colour one:) |

Ugh. This makes me so mad!! Not that I think I would have won, but maybe a few places higher would have been possible.
I thought that the white fence stood out more in the black and white shot than the other. Since it is a fence challenge, I opted for B&W.
Thanks all for your input. |
